In a couple of weeks Joker becomes the GOAT?

In a couple of weeks Joker overtakes Federer for most weeks at number 1, he'll have eighteen slams, he's the only player to complete the golden masters (he's done it twice!) 5 atp finals. Does that make him the GOAT? Nadal has a huge blemish on his resume, he's never won the ATP finals (biggest tourney outside the slams) In fact his won-loss record at that tourney is a paltry 56%. He doesn't fare too well against the stacked fields of the atp finals. Plus not enough weeks at number 1. Joker Greatest in my book. All this would have been a moot point if Federer wasn't such a huge choker. All those match point against Joker. (he also had a 2 out of 30 run of break points vs Nadal in slam finals 1 out of 17 in Paris) If he only converted on two of those, Joker wouldn't even be in the conversation! Crazy how things unfold in the sporting world! Thoughts?

No one will consider him the GOAT until he has more slams than Federer and Nadal.

He might get there, it'll be interesting to watch.

Yup.

Tennis is interesting to have 3 guys with a claim to GOAT status. A lot of people thought Murray would make it in the mix, but obviously that didn't pan out.

But yeah, I think Joker can make a great case if he can overake those two in Grand Slams. That's really the only way he's the GOAT in my opinion

I give it to Federer for now.

I have it a tie between Nadal and Federer.

I know, but if you think about it, it's much more difficult to become number one than to win a slam. Rios is the only player to reach number 1 without winning a slam, yet there's been dozens of players winning slams without reaching number 1. Vilas and Wawrinka won 4 and 3 slams respectively without reaching number 1. Weeks at number one should be a huge consideration in the goat debate, given it's much more difficult to achieve.

Joker has my vote as the greatest. Still think Borg was the best player ever, achieved way more than anyone at his age. Could have had 15-16 slams at 24 but no one played at the Aussie open back then. Still has the highest win percentage but retired too early.

no one gets my vote , GNF who ends with the most Grand Slams. With that said, the guy that ends with the most GS will likely be considered the greatest of all time

too many choke jobs by Fed, and the most recent to Nole at Wimbledon? cmon, that's vomit material. Shoudl have ended his career the yr he won Melbourne Park's incredible theatre over Nadal

anyway, the greatest of all time would be : Federer's all-around game with Nadal's mind

pass on Nole

GOAT in any sport rarely will get majority consensus cause its impossible to compare era's. With that said, the truest example of a GOAT ( sector/niche in this case) in sport is -- Nadal on clay. Now can anyone argue that?

an argunent can be made that Tiger isnt the GOAT, keep in mind he dramatically changed the game. They changed courses cause of him, look what they did to Augusta after he dominated !! 'tiger proofed ' the course, haha! A generational player no doubt and hands down the greatest American sports icon in my lifetime, by a country mile

I love Tiger and consider him the best golfer ever by leaps and bounds - with that said, Brady is the greatest sports icon the world has ever seen - and it's mot even remotely close - like even Jordan is not close

Agree 100%!! It's crazy how great Fed is and how big of a choker too! Just look at the list of grand slam winners who saved match points. Federer is tops in the other column. He went 2 out of 30 in break points vs Nadal in French and Wimbledon finals! Just think if he wins one of those points? Christ he was 1 out 8 in break points vs Berdych at Wimbledon!! You'll never see such futility, by all-time greats! Basically if he didn't choke away 2 or 3 points there wouldn't be a discussion. That's the beauty of sports, so close and yet so far away. That being said, I still think once Joker puts a few weeks between him and Fed (the shutdown benefitted him, no clay season to unseat him as number 1) He's the best ever.

Borg and Nadal would play to 5 sets each and every time in Paris. Borg 49-2 with one loss coming at 16 years old, his first slam ever. Borg is 1st and 3rd in fewest games lost in Paris. If what the experts say is true, that it was much more difficult being a baseliner and hitting passing shots with those racquets then it is today, then I would give Borg a minuscule edge.

i did a full 180 on fed phd, had to , call it like i see it. Yup, the list of chokes forget it. He's a freak for sure , tho. Fortunate to have been able to watch him

Borg over Nadal on clay? serious?....wow

Nadal's domination on clay is over an extended period AND did it by goign through two of the greatest of all-time in fed abd nole AND they were both great clay courters !! its not like he had to play McEnroe or Sampras , two non-clay courters

you might be the only person on Earth to think Nadal isnt the greatest clay courter of all time-- bro, he's the greatest example of a GOAT (on clay) sport has to offer. HE DOMINATED CLAY, not just RG

 • Nadal has a 13/13 record in French Open final and has in fact never been taken to a fifth set in a final at Roland Garros.
Nadal has 100 match wins on Paris’s famous crushed red brick against just two defeats in 15 years. The two losses came to Robin Soderling in 2009 and Djokovic in 2015.

Greatest sports icon is and always will be a soccer player, for the simple reason that your competing against billions not just against a few nations (US, Canada) Messi and Ronaldo has faced way more competition than Brady will ever face. And they don't get nearly all the calls Brady gets. Gretzky dominated his sport like no other. He holds 61 individual records. But it was easier for Gretz to dominate for the simple fact that millions play hockey as opposed to billions playing soccer. Soccer will trump all other sports because the whole planet plays soccer, and to rise to the top you face way more competition. And it will always be that way because it's virtually the cheapest sport to play. There's a reason why Gerevich is never considered the greatest sports icon of all time, even though he won Olympic gold in 6 consecutive Olympics!

They had the exact same amount of French titles at the age of 25! Borg just retired early, and didn't play in as many clay tourney's as Nadal. I'd take Lendl and Wilander on clay over Fed and Joker. (Fed and Lendl on clay, two of the biggest chokers ever!) Lendl, Vilas, Nastase 3 of the top 6 EVER in winning percentage on clay! Lendl third Joker 4th. 7 of the top 9 and 9 of the top 12 players ever in winning percentages on clay played in Borgs era. Nadal, Joker, and Muster are the only players in the top 12 in career clay winning percentage that did not play in Borgs era! Federer 13th behind Wilander and Jimmy Connors. So clearly Borg competition on clay much greater than Nadal's and it's not even close! I am one of the few, because I don't listen to the pundits.
